Instructor Dick White:

Dick White has enjoyed dancing since his high school days in
Jacksonville, FL where the “beach-bop” was the popular dance and
dancing on the Jacksonville Pier to the “juke –box- music” was the
passion of the youth. At Florida State University, Dick joined the
Cavalier & Catillion Swing Dance Club that taught other students the
dance of the call the “UT” a swing dance supposedly from the
University Of Tennessee.

When Dick arrived on the Eastern-Shore, there was always an urge
to replicate the experience of dance in his youth. One day in 1992,
he heard about Carolina Shag lessons in Virginia Beach, drove
there for lessons and soon after joined the Northern Virginia Shag
Club in and around Washington D.C. He attended special Shag Club
weekends where dance lessons started in the morning, continued
through the afternoons, and was put into use that night. Today, Dick
teaches the Carolina Shag at the Mid-Shore YMCA in Salisbury. He
also works at the Center for Conflict at Salisbury University which
mediates conflicts in the community at no charge.
