About the dancers . . .
Chris Eccleston
Chris was born and raised in Salisbury, and has always had a desire
to be involved in his community. Chris earned his Eagle Scout award
from the Salisbury Elks Lodge Boy Scout troop and graduated from
James M. Bennett in 1999. After high school, he enlisted in the
United States Navy for six years as a Nuclear Machinist Mate. He
served onboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, for
over four years. Some highlights from his military service include:
first to deploy in Operation Enduring Freedom, 2 tours in Operation
Iraqi Freedom, earning the rank of Nuclear Machinist Mate Second
Class, both Enlisted Surface and Air Warfare Specialist
designations, and a Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding
service.
In 2006, Chris received a honorable discharge and began school at
Old Dominion University. A year later he returned to Salisbury,
transferred to UMES and started work with Gillis Gilkerson
Incorporated. In 2007, he organized “Team Holly” which was made
up of a group of 5 self proclaimed out of shape professionals
(including himself) to run the Marine Corps Marathon. Their mission
was simple, raise money for Holly Community Incorporated and
Wicomico County Special Olympics, and in a little less than six
months the group raised over $12,000.
In 2008, he graduated from UMES with a degree in Construction
Management, and now is a Project Manager for Gillis Gilkerson
Incorporated. Chris will be dancing in memory of the late Dr. Harold
N. Eccleston who passed in 2005 due to cancer.

Instructor Pam Webster Ward:
Pamela Webster Ward began ballroom dance as a
child at family gatherings. “Everyone in our family has
always danced. We rolled up the rugs and danced for
hours. My sister and I still love to cha cha.” She assisted
her mother, Betty Webster, teaching the Latin Hustle
in the 1970’s, and continued to learn more about basic ballroom
styles. In 1989, she began the popular and successful Salisbury
Junior Cotillion, teaching ballroom and social etiquette to middle and
high school students. Each course ends in an elegant graduation
dance and ceremony. Over the years, several thousand students
have participated. Many of them have returned to tell her how much
it helped them later in life, when they were invited to sorority and
fraternity balls, embassy parties, and weddings. Pamela also
teaches ballet and children’s dance at the Salisbury Studio of
Dance, and is a certified public school instructor.
